Expanded Snacks
Expanded snacks are formed on an extruder and expand immediately after emerging from the die. Only drying or frying is required to reduce the moisture content and prepare them for eating.
The ready-to-eat expanded snacks are puffy, crunchy snacks made primarily from cereal ingredients, such as rice, corn, and potato. They come in various simple shapes, including curls, balls, rings, animals, and stars, and are often textured and coated with salt, spices, or cheese to make them fun and tasty.
With the cutting-edge RBS Expanded Snack System, you can optimize output and efficiency to improve your products and your process, enabling you to produce corn curls and corn ball shapes, popcorn, onion rings, and more.
Our High-Pressure Extruder mixes and cooks ingredients to produce expanded shapes. The flexible design provides for quick and easy changeover of the screws, barrels, and product dies, allowing for a wide variety of products with interesting textures and flavors in different shapes.
Another component, the Tumble Dryer, reduces the moisture of the product to the proper, finished level, typically 1.5% to 4%. Depending on the application, this dryer can handle product from two extruders at once. Air circulation, speed, and temperature control are automatic, and drying time can be adjusted during operation to ensure quality control.
Popped Snacks
For this system, RBS and Incomec have a partnership for supplying the system components in the US and Canada. RBS supplies the required auxiliary equipment, including conveyors, feeders, seasoners, and provides sales support, installation, and technical support for the Popped Snack Systems.
Incomec supplies either a Pellex C+ or Cerex Processor, depending on the final product you would like to produce. This line is scalable, so you can add processors to your line as your business grows.
- Pellex C+Processor: The Pellex C+ Processor produces light, crunchy chip products. It can convert micropellets and dry ingredients with high free starch levels into crunchy, wavy chips, such as broken rice, corn grits, and potato-based materials.
- Cerex Processor: The Cerex Processor is a grain processor designed to convert untreated grain, pellets, and cereal blends with high free starch levels into unique popped products. It creates puffed rice cakes, crackers, and biscuit products of varying sizes that can be produced with quick and simple changes of the forming dies.
