Dough Forming Solutions

Whether your production involves pet foods that are rotary molded, extruded, sheeted, or in stick or nugget form, Reading Bakery Systems has a solution that will meet your needs.

Extruded and co-extruded pet food: The Reading Pretzel Low Pressure (LP) Extruderenables you to create a variety of structural, flat and filled extruded and co-extruded shapes and sticks. It offers a more flexible, cost-effective alternative to conventional dough forming and sheeting systems for customers who produce a variety of dry pet foods.
Rotary moulded pet food: The Thomas L. Green Rotary Moulderefficiently produces high definition, three dimensional shapes by pressing dough into a die roll. The interchangeable die roll is made of engraved brass and can be supplied with segmented rings for simultaneous, multiple shape production.
Sheeted pet food: The Thomas L. Green Sheeter creates a consistent dough sheet and Gauging Stations ensure accurate thickness prior to forming. Scrapless geometric shapes and distinct shapes can be formed with the Rotary Cutting Station.
Sticks and nuggets: The single-blade Reading Pretzel Guillotine Cutter cuts products uniformly before or after baking, allowing the operator to create a product size as short as one inch (25 mm) at the press of a button.

Mixing & Baking Solutions

Continuous mixing with the Exact EX Continuous Mixer produces more consistent dough than batch mixing. Continuous mixing can be utilized for both soft and chewy and hard and crunchy pet food.

The process is ideal because the products are both well-mixed and heated to the proper kill temperature in the mixer. The dough can be quickly heated to the kill temperature within a range of one degree and then cooled, all without additional dough handling.

For efficient dough handling, a Laytime Conveyor can be installed directly under a continuous or batch mixer. Chunker Rolls, Kibbler Knives, Sheeter Rolls or a Guillotine Cutter can be provided at the Laytime Conveyor discharge to process the dough batch for the downstream equipment.

The Reading Pretzel SPECTRUM OVENĀ® offers a variety of heat transfer combinations in one modular design. The single pass convection baking platform is designed for balanced and consistent baking of pet food and pet treats. Operators control the product moisture removal rate for maximum quality assurance. The addition of an optional SPECTRUM Multi-Pass Dryer will increase oven speed, production throughput and process control.
